The lovely Vibeke from Norway and creator behind thevikingabroad.com has reached out to me:
And nominated me to join the liebster community!
THANK YOU VIBEKE! : )
The Liebster Award is an international award by bloggers for bloggers.
If you didn't know, "liebster" is German and translates into "kindest, nicest lovely, dearest".
Here are the 10 questions Vibeke had for me.
#1 What do you regret the most of choosing a life filled with travel?
When it comes to travel, people generally speak about the benefits and all things shiny, the good stuff, the broad horizon and so on. To set things straight, I'm not really regretting the fact that I have chosen a life full of travel but I do regret a few things which come at the expense:
Not having a stable home. Not having all my friends around me.
Finding myself slightly judgmental when I perceive people to be narrow-minded.
#2 What do you think you would do if you didn’t focus on traveling?
Going places and chasing the endless horizon is always the underlying driver of all my trips.
But that's not the end of my story. I'm not traveling 365 days in a year. So in all of the days that I don't travel, I focus on experiences and exploring the here and now in all its facets. Maybe it's taking that travel mindset which steers here and there and everywhere and applies it to the everyday.
#3 Is it something you really regret you didn’t do at a destination you have been to?
Quite frankly: So last year I traveled across Central America. I wanted to see all these countries and had only three weeks off work which meant I raced from Guatemala to Panama. Now recently I've seen the lovely impressions of Lily Rose who also took a trip there. Her images are just stunning and I noticed how I asked myself why I didn't see what she saw. But then I realized how we are all experiencing different stories and that's just how it is. My memories are all mine and I wouldn't trade them for anything.
#4 Have you had a trip ruined because you were sick?
Oh yes, I had the worst stomach cramps in Nicaragua! Read about my quite emotional experience here.
#5 What is a device you can’t travel without?
My phone - and I know it sounds lame! But I want to challenge myself:
When taking weekend trips from London, I bet it would feel amazing to leave the phone at home.
#6 Have you ever missed a flight?
No!! But I've been in so many scenarios where I thought I would.
There was this one time when I misread the schedule and eventually I ended up seeing my flight on the status "Final Call".
I had 20 minutes to get to the gate but made it.
Pople probably thought I just arrived after a sports event or something.
#7 Have you experienced jet-lag, how do you deal with it?
Sleep for an hour. Get up. Sleep. Get up. Sleep until you find the right balance.
I love getting up early in the morning wherever I am, observing an unknown place waking up reveals so incredibly much about its charm. There is something quite magical about seeing a place rise.....
#8 Have you fallen in love while traveling?
Yes. <3 He was sitting next to me on a plane from Singapur to Bali.
(If you know German, you can read all about that love story here).
#9 What inspires you to travel more?
To rise above my own limitations, have more understanding and meet amazing people.
#10 Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
Sitting at my lovely writing table. Cozy light at 11 pm and I'm typing away.
A woman with a minimalist lifestyle who incorporates a philosophy along the words of "you only need a pen and a paper".
#11 What is the best travel tips you would give to beginners?
Look at the map. Pick a country. Go!
Don't compare yourself with others, trust your gut feeling which will tell you which place is waiting for you.
So now it's my turn to ask some questions and nominate other bloggers.
1. What is your name? Which country do you come from/call home?
2. Are you a backpacker/long term traveler/business traveler/live and work abroad?
3. How do you fund your travel (savings/work whilst traveling/other)?
4. What does travel mean to you?
5. Have you had any bad experiences whilst travelling?
6. Do you have any funny travel stories?
7. Where is your favourite travel experience?
8. Top 5 travel advice tips?
9. Where do you see travel 10 years from now?
10. What is the name of your travel blog and the URL? As well as other social media links?
